Here we are in the middle of February with the new season fast approaching. The committee is busy making arrangements to ensure that all our members enjoy a course in great and some interesting competitions to play.
In order to keep our machinery up to date we have decided to upgrade our oldest piece of machinery and purchase a younger fairway mower. The bad news is that this will cost us in excess of £17K. Anyone who would like to contribute towards the cost of the machine can do so by contacting Iain McQueen our treasurer.
On the playing front we are introducing a new mixed foursomes match play league to be played over the summer months. Watchout for further information on this in future weekly news.
On the coaching front arrangements are currently being made for both junior and senior coaching opportunities. Our Captain, David Aitken is in the currently working on the details of coaching dates and arranging training for two more coaches to assist him with this work. From April the Saturday morning coaching will now be made available to both Juniors and any Adults who wish to take up the game. As well as the Saturday coaching we will also hold a weekly competition on a Thursday for those juniors who have achieved the standard to play on the course. David will aslo be delivering an Easter Camp on Monday 3rd, Wednesday 5th & Friday 7th April. David is also delivering coaching in the local schools during March. We are also arranging to hold the area junior schools tournament later in the year.
As the week has gone on the weather has grown colder and both the Ladies & Gents weekend competitions where played in bitter conditions. The scores for each reflected the conditions with Erica Porteous winning the Ladies February medal with a net 77 and Sandy Harvie winning the Gents 15 Hole Winter League with 29 points.
