Sadly I have to report the sad death of a past club captain, Gordon Lindsay. Gordon was captain of the club in 1996/97 and although he has been unable to play golf for some time, his visits to the clubhouse on a Sunday afternoon were always appreciated by the members. Our condolences go to Gordon’s family during this sad time.
On a brighter note the club hosted the Dumfries & Galloway Primary Schools Championship on Thursday. It was a delight to see upwards of 50 children on our course all enjoying their golf and behaving impeccably. Thanks go to David Aitken & Sandy Harvie for their tremendous effort in arranging the competition and also to all our memebrs who turned out to either provide food or walk the course with the youngsters. The individual winner was Vanessa Ho from Newton Stewart and it was just magic to see Davids fledglings from the Saturday morning coaching turn out to play their first nine hole competition. Well done to them all.
On the playing side the fine condition of the course continues to provide some excellent scoring. On Wednesday the ladies played their Coronation Foursomes and the winners were Gerry Mackechnie & Erica Porteous. Friday’s gents summer league saw a tremendous winning score of 70-6-64 by the Match Secretary, Sandy Harvie. Sunday was the gents Glenkens Tankards were a mixture of youth and experience of Scott Jamieson & David Nielsen, produce a magnificient score of 70-9-61.
The highlight of the week ahead is the gents senior open on Thursday. The draw can be seen by following this link,. Any late entries can be made by contacting me as soon as possible.
