Congratulations to Ewan Kelly on winning the trophy with a tight finish against Dave Aitken. Dave won the final round, displaying unbelievable concentration with his runs into the trees. Ashley played remarkably well playing off a reduced handicap.
Our tour was held earlier in April this year. All were not prepared for the biting cold east wind. Most froze. We found the rough was not so deep in  April..
Thanks to Dave Nielsen for organising the trip.

    Brian’s Memorial

20 golfers played in a game to remember Brian Porteous, a year and a day from his untimely death. Brian was a remarkable putter and had a lovely sense of humour. It seemed appropriate to have a format where golfers putted with the longest club in their bag on the greens. Three tied for the Brian Porteous Trophy, a stunning wood turning from the syscamore tree by the clubhouse by Rex Dressler. Ewan Kelly, Mark Evans and Jeff Sutcliffe ties with 30 points over the 15 holes. Ewan won with a better inward half of 17 points.

Winner of the prize draw, a bottle of 10 year old Laphroaig whisky donated by Dave Nielsen, was Wave Tyrrell. The draw raised £210 to which £40 will be added from the Seniors fund to pay for the plaque for Brian’s seat. Flowers were placed by the seat. Other winners were Janette Davidson a bottle of wine, Murray Johnstone a bottle of wine, Derek Shipley a bottle of beer and Nevile White some placemats.

The captain Alan Thorburn presented the trophy to Ewan and he thanked all who contributed a great day.

What a relief, we managed a day out without rain although the it was a bit on the chilly side. Jeff secured the title with 70 points, the same as Ewan, with a better second round. 30 odd points was very respectable on a course 6476 yards long in winter.

Winner on the day was Mark with an outstanding 36 points. It was pleasing for John to score 33 points for second place. Jeff came third with a worthy 32 points.
