13th March - Winter League 9 holes There's rain in them thar hills.   The weather wasn't kind to us so we settled for a 9 hole format to wrap up the 2020-2021 Winter League Competition - which comprised 13 weeks of wintry competition this season. We had 7 players turn out for the fun and games.   A terrific performance in variable (!) conditions gave Janette a great victory, one point ahead of Erica and Elizabeth in joint 2nd. A respectable turnout of 9 golfers for the final Saturday fixture of the autumn-spring season - the May medal.   We held a maximum score medal to get us back into the swing of competitions. And more practice with our WHS calculations...the gift that keeps on giving. Two weeks of glory to catch up on... First up 27th February, where 6 of us trooped out to do Winter League battle. After a long gap, someone finally got a two! Hurrah for Elizabeth. And hopefully she returns from the Caribbean in time for our next fixture <joke obvs> Both Elena and Elizabeth had terrific blob-free rounds. Well, since the last post before Christmas, there's been a whole two, count 'em, TWO who Winter League fixtures played (thanks to the ongoing freeeeeezing conditions which mean that most of January was a write-off in golfing terms). Saturday January 30th I wasn't out there myself so no photographs I'm afraid. Plenty of overnight rain to soften up the course for this week's Winter League. As they mentioned once or twice on the Masters commentary, it'll be like throwing darts at a dartboard(!) ...how have you been since March? Here's a gallop through what you may have missed... Soooooo...we had no golf at all 😱 for two months, then we returned with a lot of restrictions. Undaunted, we devised a Lockdown League which kept us entertained for four happy weeks. Elena Rogers was the worthy winner but please don't ask to see the trophy! Once the restrictions were lifted a wee bit more , we hastily re-shuffled our golfing calendar and resumed some of our competitions in July. Unfortunately, the Opens remained cancelled - we hope to be able to run them in 2021.…

It was just a bit too dreich and blustery to entertain the thought of 18 long holes. Especially with the forecast so poor.   After storms Ciara and Dennis put the kibosh on the last two weeks' play, we were all suffering rather badly from cabin fever. Luckily Storm Jorge was considerate enough to delay his arrival long enough to let us set out for some fresh air. The weather had improved markedly since last week, despite the horrific forecast. We had 7 golfers line up for the February Medal.   Marena & I set off as the second pair behind Erica & Elena. Janette, Linda & Anne brought up the rear (not a euphemism).   We both managed to stonk our drives up to summerish distance!   And a couple of actual par 4s set us up nicely on the first hole.
